Sensory Responses to Art
  • I love how playing with paint feels; it's squishy and cool. When I use my fingers to spread it, it's like magic seeing all the different colors mix. It doesn't really matter what it ends up looking like, it’s just fun to see the colors become something new. I love bright colors the most; they make me feel happy and excited, like when I see a rainbow or my favorite cartoon. Everything is alive and every mark I make is a surprise!
Emotional Connections to Artistic Elements
  • I feel so much when I look at colors and shapes. Red makes me think of fun things like apples and my superhero cape. And when I see circles and soft edges, it feels like a hug or being curled up in my blanket. Sharp shapes like triangles can feel a bit scary sometimes, like pointy teeth, but in a picture, I know they can't hurt me. When I touch things, like clay or fabric, it's like they talk to me with how they feel. Some are warm and fuzzy, others are cold and smooth, and they all make me feel different things. I don't think too hard about why, I just like it.
Interpretation of Artistic Expression
  • When I make something, I don't have a big plan; I just start and see where it goes. I might make something that looks like a house or an animal, but sometimes, it's just a bunch of things I like together. I don't always know why I put this color next to that one, it just feels right. When I'm done, I feel all proud and want to show it to someone because it's something I made with my hands and heart. Sometimes adults ask me what it is, and I don't always have an answer. It's just my art, and I like it that way.
Manifestations of Imagination
  • In my world, everything can be anything! A block can be a car zooming around or a mountain for ants. When I draw, I can create new places that no one has ever seen before. If I'm playing with clay, maybe I'll try to make a snake, but if it starts to look like a worm or even just a wiggly line, that's okay too! The fun part is not knowing and just being in the adventure of making it up as I go along. I don't worry if it's 'right' or not because in my mind, everything is just perfect the way it is.
